For our fourth lesson on how to boost traffic to your website, we are looking at how you can increase direct traffic.

What is Direct Traffic?

Direct traffic is how many people directly visit your website by manually entering your URL address. Increasing direct traffic can require more leg work as you have to physically leave your desk to help spread the word about your business. If more people know about your business they will prefer to go directly to your website rather than looking for you in search engines.

There are many ways you can increase your direct traffic:

Attend conferences and other networking events relevant to your sector. Offer business cards with your website link so they will visit your website directly and they will more likely tell people more about your business if they have received a smart business card.

This can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. Print small paper ads and put them in local shops or places that accept advertising. Get an advertisement on the radio, television or in the newspaper. You want people to see the name of your business so they will want to visit your website.

Spread the Word

Tell everyone you know about your business. From word-of-mouth your friends, family and colleagues can spread the word about your business and as long as you’re on good terms with them they can say kind things about your services.

This is one of the most important ways to boost traffic to your website and your business. There are many businesses out there that are similar to yours so you need to create a unique brand and image that will attract your audience. Having the right brand is a great way to boost the traffic and popularity to your website.

Good Looking Website

When you are trying to attract new customers, your website should look as appealing as possible so when people arrive at your website they will have a reason to come back. No one will return to a website that is dull and uninspiring. To keep people returning to your website, keep it updated and make sure that the website is fully functional.

To make customers come back to your website it needs to memorable. This can be done by simply decluttering the website and making sure the design of the website is good and the URL should be simple and easy to remember.

Direct traffic will only rise if people remember your URL address otherwise they will only find you from search engines (which is good news for your organic traffic). Make your business memorable so it stays in the minds of your customers.
