It has been confirmed at Re/code’s code/mobile conference by Google’s Senior Vice President of Google Search Amit Singh that more and more Google searches are occurring on mobile. He explained that over half of the hundred billion searches conducted in Google are now from mobile devices.
Amit Singh then added that Google was not counting mobile devices with screens exceeding six inches in size, so this excludes searches on tablets.
Why is it Important to have a mobile friendly site?
John Mueller also spoke at the conference about Google’s latest findings and went on to warn businesses whose websites aren’t optimised for mobile devices. He explained that “More than half of Google’s searches are now coming from mobile. If you haven’t made your site (or your client’s sites) mobile-friendly, you’re ignoring a lot of potential users.”
Having a mobile friendly website makes it easier for customers to use as well as navigate and interact with, making the website rank higher in Google’s ranking.
This is because of an update that Google implemented last year where they would punish a website that isn’t mobile optimised by making the website rank lower in its search rankings.
